Macro Trends in Sustainability Affect Property and Facility Strategies Say Experts at Carrier’s Global Engineering Conference

SYRACUSE, N.Y., May 2, 2012 – Regulatory and institutional investment trends are key drivers for green building, determining where, how and what building owners and occupants construct,  according to Dan Probst, P.E., LEED® Accredited Professional, at Carrier’s recent Global Engineering Conference in Las Vegas. Carrier is a part of UTC Climate, Controls & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

Carrier, the world’s leader in high technology heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and refrigeration solutions, welcomed a global audience of approximately 900 attendees from 20 countries and 40 states to its Global Engineering Conference. Probst said the industry needs to expand the definition of green building to include not only energy efficiency and sustainability factors, but also regulatory and utility programs, the effect of climate change, and access to public transportation, water and other resources, as these are factors building owners and investors need to consider.

“Green building is not just about bricks and mortar,” Probst said. “Green building is about how and where people work, how they get to work, how the structure can improve operations, productivity, efficiency and use of space, and how we can achieve energy efficiency and sustainability while increasing the value of the building for owners, investors, tenants and occupants.”

Chairman of Energy and Sustainability Services at a leading global property services firm, Probst was one of more than 30 distinguished speakers who discussed the latest in sustainable design and engineering practices at the event and is global chairman of Energy and Sustainability Services for Jones Lang LaSalle.
